EuFoRIa – European Forest Research Initiative
Founding member of the network of strictly unmanaged forest reserves across Europe (6,500+ permanent plots, records since 1936). I develop and maintain the central data infrastructure and use the network to make "close to nature" empirically measurable.
FINN – Forest Informed Neural Networks
A hybrid dynamic forest model combining demographic process structure with machine learning, developed with Maximilian Pichler. Available as an R package.

WILDCARD (Horizon Europe)
Contributor to the EU project on rewilding and unmanaged forests; involved in delineating ecoregions and connecting reserve data across Europe.
Demographic process niches (with M. Pichler)
Ongoing analysis of the US Forest Inventory (FIA) to separate the environmental niches of regeneration, growth, and mortality, and to identify demographically stable and unstable tree populations.
Uncertainty for decisions
Work with C. F. Dormann and F. Hartig on full prediction uncertainty quantification, and an ongoing collaboration with environmental economics on expected values and variances of ecosystem services.
